UAE, Greece solidify strategic foundation as Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed meets the Greek PM



In an attempt to strengthen the strategic partnership between the United Arab Emirates and Greece, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed met with the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Wednesday.

With this meet, the crown prince of Abu Dhabi and the deputy supreme commander of armed forces, Sheikh Zayed hopes to establish better cooperation across various fields between the two countries. He expressed his happiness on twitter saying, “I had the pleasure of meeting Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Prime Minister of Greece, and I am happy to announce the establishment of a strategic partnership to enhance political, economic and cultural co-operation between our countries.”

The meeting took place in Al Shati Palace in Abu Dhabi where the crown price welcomed the Greek PM and his officials who reportedly discussed the rapidly changing dynamics of the two countries and the ways of developing their joint interests in different areas. The officials at both the ends also reportedly discussed the regional and international issues that impact both the nations.

The two lands also aim to progress with their relations in areas of investment, commerce, politics, culture and defence. One other mutual concern for both was Turkey’s involvement in the disputed region of the East Mediterranean.

As the meeting went on, the delegation further touched upon common agendas and asserted that the both the countries support strong political will and peaceful resolutions in the region. The common goals remain a conflict-free zone, prosperity of people, development and trustworthy security and safety in the region.

As per a report in WAM, the Sheikh heavily promoted the idea of peaceful actions, respect for the sovereignty of countries and not indulging oneself in others internal affairs is the key to resolve the pertaining disputes in the region and the UAE will support and work with those working to establish peace.

The two countries released a joint statement in the matters concerning Turkey which read, “violations of the sovereignty and sovereign rights of the Hellenic Republic and the Republic of Cyprus, as well as its overall aggressive conduct in the Middle East, South-East Mediterranean and South Caucasus in blatant violation of international law".

They called out the Erdogan administration for not following the International law and not limiting its provocative actions in the region. Further the two also pledged and showed commitment to the UN charter international law and stressed on the importance of peace and security all over the world.

Another issue that was touched by the officials of both the nation was terrorsim. They expressed their concern about the increasing terrorism ans the areas that conflicted on their own being the target of these terror groups. They rejected the extremism that has been increasing in the region and showed concern over exploitation of conflict-prone zones.

They showed their full support to stand against terrorism and requested the international facilities to be aggressive in handling such matters. Earlier in September the Crown Prince visited Athens and discussed strengthening the partnership between the two nations and this meet is being considered as a follow up of the same.

On Wednesday, the strategic partnership agreement was signed by the Minister of Forign Affairs, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed and Greece's Minister of foriegn affairs, Nikos Dendias
